Siding Repair

Siding Repair in the Seattle Area, WA.

Not every damaged wall needs a full re-clad. When the failure is confined, we cut it out, fix what is behind it and blend the repair back in, so you keep the siding you already paid for.

When a Repair Is the Right Call

Confined Damage Does Not Need a Whole New Envelope.

Siding usually fails in patches, not all at once. A section below a window where the head flashing was missed. The bottom two courses on the north wall where the grade is too high. A run beneath a roof edge with no kick-out flashing. The rest of the wall can be perfectly sound while one area has been taking water for years.

A repair is the right answer when the damage is localized, the material is still available or matchable, and the wall behind the failed section is sound or can be made sound. It is the wrong answer when the same failure appears on every elevation, when the cladding has reached the end of its life, or when the barrier behind it was never installed correctly in the first place. We will say which one you have.

What matters in a siding repair is what happens after the damaged boards come off. Anyone can cut out a panel and nail a new one in. The repair only holds if the barrier is repaired and properly lapped, the flashing that was missing is added, and whatever caused the water to arrive there is corrected. Otherwise you get a new board over the same problem.

How We Work

How We Repair Siding

A patch is only as good as the cause you found, so we open the wall before quoting the finish.

Full system inspection

We establish how far the damage runs, which is almost always further than the visible area, and we find the entry point: flashing, clearance, a penetration, or the detail above it.

01

Define the Scope

The scope separates the cladding repair from any structural or barrier work found behind it, and states plainly how close a material match you should expect.

02

Execute the Repair

The failed section is removed, damaged sheathing and framing replaced, the weather barrier repaired and correctly lapped, missing flashing added, and new cladding fitted and finished to blend.

03

Verify & Document

We confirm the corrected detail actually sheds water, check the surrounding clearances, and photograph the wall opened up so you can see what was behind the siding.

Why Chimneyz

We Repair the Cause, Not the Panel

Most siding damage in Greater Seattle starts at a junction with another trade: a roof edge, a chimney, a deck ledger. A siding crew patches the board. We trace the water, fix the detail that let it in, and repair the cladding over a wall that is now dry. Because we also do the roofing and the masonry, there is no second contractor to wait on and nobody to blame.

FAQ

Siding Repair FAQ

Siding repair is the job most often quoted without anyone opening the wall. Here is what to ask.
Often, and we are straight about it when we cannot. Profile and material are usually matchable; exact color on weathered cladding rarely is, which is why we discuss finish and paint before starting rather than after.
Look at how widespread it is. Damage in one or two defined areas with sound cladding elsewhere is a repair. The same failure appearing on every elevation, or material at the end of its life, is a replacement.
A well-blended repair on painted siding is usually hard to find once finished. On unpainted or heavily weathered material there will be a visible difference until it weathers in, and we say so upfront.
We expect to find some, and the scope separates it out so it is not a surprise line item. Replacing rotted sheathing or framing before re-cladding is not optional; covering it is how walls fail structurally.
Because the cause is still there. A repeating failure almost always means a missing flashing, a clearance problem or a roof detail above it. Replacing the board again without fixing that just resets the clock.
